Respected Secretary, Department of Higher Education, MoE, Government of India | I was a student at Indian institute of science education and research bhopal. It is one of the reputed institution in india for research. It offers a BS-MS dual degree 5-year program. The BS-MS student here are rigorously trained as a researchers who represent India after they go for their future endeavours.
The director of the institute is professor Gobardhan das, from JNU. He was also a politician from current ruling party with his constituency lying major in west bengal or bihar border. Since his joining, he has done everything to get in good terms of the government in rule. He has called many political figures in many institutional events like institute day.
But the problem is his negligence towards welfare of the student community. For the last 2 years the institute convocation have been highly delayed by him. Because he wants that some political figures to become the chief guest. Due to unavailability of dates of this political figures from Central govt. the convocation, that is primarily the students function is delayed. The major issue is that many students goes for further studies like PhD in india or abroad, due to delay in conducting the convocation these students are unable to attend the same and could not get degree on time and face some problems in admission at other universities.
Although this may sound to be very normal thing to you all. But the students at IISERs undergoes a very tough and advanced course curriculum for 4 years in BS-MS curriculum. In the last year, they perform an extensive research the their major field of study to produce some fundamentals research outcomes. After this each student write a MS Thesis and defend it in front of committee of Professors. After putting this hardwork, if a student have to go and collect their degree like a normal district college, without any proper send off, it not only disheartens us but also gives us a regret for a life. For many students, who are not going for phd, its their 1st and last convocation. Not able to attend it is really sad.
Almost all other institutions like other iisers, iits, iisc have already conducted their convocation or will be conducting it in the 1st week of August like iit delhi (2nd August). But in our institute, mr director wanted to call Mr. Road transport minister this year. I don't know why a road transport minister will do in a science college. Other science institute donot call any politician for giving degree. They call some great scientific personalities like drdo chief, isro chief. But no our director sahab need some politician only who are busy in taking care of our country. Its very difficult for students like us to wait for so long to get our degree.
Last year also convocation was also really delayed as Mr director called Finance minister for the convocation. Many students who worked hard 5 years were not able to attend the convocation. And this years it is said that the convocation is not going to happen before 28th August because of monsoon session. Sir, its really sad for young minds like us to suffer like this.
We, the iiser bhopal graduating community is reaching out to your platform to raise our concerns to wider public and government. So that our director gets some senses that the convocation is not the platform to acquire money from government. It is only and only for students. Students dont want politician to give them degree, they want a fair and sincere send off from their alma mater institute.
If your platform could support us in social media, we would be highly grateful. It would empower our voice which is suppressed or ignored by the administration of IISER Bhopal. I hope you understand our concern.
PS: I WOULD LIKE TO KEEP MY IDENTITY ANONYMOUS DUE TO INSTITUTE ANTIHATE POLICY. And not face any repercussions.
Thank you and regards
Graduating community.
