ऐसा बहुत कम होता है लेकिन इस बार हुआ। सोनिया गांधी, राहुल गांधी और शायद प्रियंका गांधी तीनों ने मिलकर कांग्रेस पार्टी में अपने विश्वासपात्र नेता की तलाश बड़ी तेजी से पूरी कर दी। चंडीगढ़ के नेता पवन कुमार बंसल को कांग्रेस पार्टी का कोषाध्यक्ष बनाया गया है। कहा जा रहा है कि पवन बंसल, दिवंगत नेता अहमद पटेल की जगह लेंगे। यानी गांधी परिवार की आंख, नाक और कान पवन कुमार बंसल होंगे।

पवन कुमार बंसल 1982 से चंडीगढ़ के लोकप्रिय कांग्रेस नेता बने

पवन कुमार बंसल की पहचान अब तक कांग्रेस पार्टी के पुराने, निष्ठावान और अपने क्षेत्र में प्रभावशाली कार्यकर्ता के रूप में रही है। सन 1982 में पवन कुमार बंसल यूथ कांग्रेस पंजाब के प्रेसिडेंट बने और यहीं से वह पंजाब व कांग्रेस की नजरों में आ गए। 

पवन कुमार बंसल 2014 तक 4 बार चंडीगढ़ के सांसद बने

चंडीगढ़ लोकसभा सीट से लगातार चार बार लोकसभा चुनाव जीतकर सांसद एवं मनमोहन सिंह सरकार में मंत्री बने लेकिन 2014 और 2019 का लोकसभा चुनाव भाजपा की महिला नेता एवं एक्टर अनुपम खेर की पत्नी किरण खेर से हार गए। 

भ्रष्टाचार के आरोप के चलते इस्तीफा देना पड़ा था

72 साल के बंसल मनमोहन सिंह के कार्यकाल में संसदीय मामलों के राज्य मंत्री, वित्त राज्यमंत्री, जल संसाधन मंत्री जैसे कई मंत्रालय संभाल चुके हैं। यूपीए-2 में उन्हें रेल मंत्री भी बनाया गया था लेकिन उनके भतीजे के ऊपर रिश्वतखोरी का आरोप लगने पर 3 मई 2013 को उन्हें इस्तीफ़ा देना पड़ा था।
