US born Religious Singers

Prachi Makkar is a freshman at Seton Hall University and  is part of the Leadership Development Business Honors Program with $90,000.00 Academic Scholarship. She is a High Honor Roll student and winner of various awards including the President’s Award for Excellence in Education in 8th Grade and Principal’s Education Award in high school.

While doing her High School from The Academy of Performing Arts she learned Acting, dance and stage Management for 4 years. She was VP of International Thespian Society NJ Chapter also. She started her devotional singing and playing Harmonium at the Bridgewater Gurudwara Sahib in 2002 under Bhai Shivcharan Ji after that Bhai Prakash Singh Ji and since 2009 Bhai Harinder Singh Ji is her teacher. 

She has participated in various Shabad Kirtan and speech competitions and has won various awards.  For Hindi Bhajans both her parents help her with lyrics and pronunciation rest she does it by herself. For the last three years she along with her younger brother Surya is doing Maa Durga Chowki in temples and private homes in tri-state area. She is also involved with the two youth Summer Camps organized by Balaji Temple every year since 2009. She started as Bhajan teacher then became Counselor and Head Counselor and this year she became Assistant Director. Since 2011 she is also taking Classical music classes also from Surendra Guru Ji in Edison .

Surya Makkar is High School freshman at  Union County Magnet High School and is part of High Math. He has been a High Honor Roll Student and winner of various awards including President’s Award for Excellence in Education in 8th Grade. He started learning Tabla at Bridgewater Gurudwara Sahib in 2006 from Bhai Vinod Singh Ji. Since 2009 he has been learning Shabad kirtan from Bhai Harinder Singh Ji. He has participated in various Shabad Kirtan and speech competition and has won various awards. 

For Hindi Bhajans both his parents and elder sister help him with lyrics and pronunciation rest he does it by himself. Surya plays 5 instruments; Tabla, Dholki, Dhol, Harmonium and Saxophone. For the last three years he along with his elder sister is doing Maa Durga Chowki in temples and private homes in tri-state area. He is also involved with the two youth Summer Camps organized by Balaji Temple every year since 2011 as Tabla teacher and Camper. Since 2011 he is also taking advance Tabla classes also from Surendra Guru Ji in Edison .
P.S. Prachi is 18 and Surya is 14 and both are US born.
