Gmail has launched a brand new inbox with emails automatically sorted under various tabs, namely, Primary, Social, Promotions, Updates and Forum.
Gmail is a wonderful email service. Since its launch, it has been miles ahead of competitors like Yahoo and Hotmail. Continuous innovation and addition of new features keeps Gmail’s numero uno position unchallenged. The latest improvements in the Gmail interface are tabs. Google is slowly rolling out a new tab based view for Gmail.
What is this Gmail tabbed view?
Gmail has introduced tabs as a way of easy email management. All the computer users are familiar with tabs as they are part of most of the user interface designs. Therefore, it would quite intuitive for Gmail users to use various tabs.
What’s the benefit of tabbed view?
Tabbed view keeps your inbox uncluttered. In modern times, it is hard to keep undesired emails from social networking sites and promotional emails at bay. But now Gmail automatically sorts all incoming emails among various tabs. Emails from social networking sites will go to the “Social” Tab and promotional messages with go to the “Promotions” Tab. Rest of the emails will stay in the “Primary” Tab and these emails in Primary Tab that Gmail believe are of interest to the users.
What are the various tabs available?
At present, by default, three tabs, namely Primary, Social and Promotions are shown to the user. Primary tab is default tab. There is a small button adjacent to the Promotions tab bearing + sign; which can be used to add two more tabs: Updates and Forums.
How does Gmail know where to place an email?
Algorithms in Gmail software keep trying to understand the way you send, open, read, compose, delete emails and contacts. On the basis of this understanding it sorts incoming emails among various tabs.
Can I shift an email from one to another?
Yes, you easily can! If Gmail has placed an email in a wrong tab, you can shift it to a different tab either by right-clicking on the email or by dragging email to the appropriate tab.
Why don’t I see tabs in my Gmail Inbox?
Google is yet to complete roll out of this feature. If you don’t see tabs -just wait for a few days and when your Gmail server shall get updated -tabs will appear in your inbox.
