Guru Purnima Speech in English

Respected teachers, dear friends, and all esteemed guests present here, a very warm good morning to you all!

Today, we have gathered to celebrate the sacred occasion of Guru Purnima, a day dedicated to expressing our gratitude and reverence for our teachers and mentors. Observed on the full moon day of the Ashadha month, Guru Purnima holds a special place in our cultural and spiritual traditions.

The word "Guru" is derived from two Sanskrit words: "Gu," meaning darkness, and "Ru," meaning the one who removes it. A Guru is thus a guiding light who dispels the darkness of ignorance and leads us toward the path of knowledge and wisdom. In Indian culture, a Guru is revered even above God, as they are the ones who guide us to righteousness, impart values, and teach us the art of living.

Our ancient scriptures and epics, such as the Mahabharata, highlight the sacred bond between a Guru and their disciple. Be it the devotion of Eklavya toward Guru Dronacharya or Arjuna’s guidance under Lord Krishna, these stories remind us of the transformative power of a Guru’s wisdom. This day also commemorates the great sage Maharishi Ved Vyas, the author of the Vedas and Mahabharata, who is revered as the Adi Guru.

In today’s fast-paced world, the role of a Guru remains as vital as ever. Whether it is our school teachers, parents, or anyone who inspires and teaches us, they all embody the spirit of a Guru. Guru Purnima reminds us to honor their contributions and strive to live by the values they impart.

Let us take a moment to express our heartfelt gratitude to our Gurus. On this auspicious day, let us pledge to follow their teachings, walk the path of truth, and make our lives meaningful.

"Gurur Brahma, Gurur Vishnu, Gurur Devo Maheshwara,
Guru Sakshat Parabrahma, Tasmai Shri Gurave Namah."
Thank you all!
